Rest, Child (Series)
I was raised by a village of brilliant, multifaceted and hard working women. This is very evident in much of my artwork. Some of the most important lessons I’ve ever learned were from women. Their lives tell the story of sacrifice and resilience from sun up to sun down. Each piece in this series represents a different hour of the day. This is because, in most families, women are the primary nurturers and don’t often have much time for rest. It was important to me that my technique be more loose and unrefined in this series unlike some of my other work. Each of these paintings capture a level of emotion illustrated by the uneven brushstrokes, overlapping of layers, scrapes and splatters.
